The records directly reflect the Division's mission and pertain to functions such as: the administration of projects focusing on community organization, education, recreation, policing, psychological and social casework, and other related youth services; the compilation and analysis of data regarding juvenile delinquency and the treatment of adolescents with anti-social behavior; the recruitment of staff to participate in youth services programs; and the development and implementation of programs designed to improve the employability of secondary school dropouts.

Ersa H. Poston was appointed Regional Director of the New York State Youth Commission in 1957 and continued in that capacity when the State Division for Youth superseded the Youth Commission in 1960.
